About the project

Project title: The Value of Wasted Materials - VWM

Project No.: 2011-1-RO1-LEO04-14839 3

Contracting period: 2011 / 08 / 01 – 2013 / 07 / 31

EU programme: Lifelong Learning Programme - Leonardo da Vinci Partnerships

Coordinator: Epimorfotiki Kilkis SM llc

Background

In the actual evolution of technique the specialists are making efforts for improve the technologies and the products to obtain a better environment protection, an energetic efficiency, more possibilities to recover and recycling materials. All this efforts cannot be successful without a specific education in all the technical domains. The new specialists we qualify will have to be able to put the correct price on the wasted materials that results from the industrial activity they are trained for and to look for solutions of reducing the waste and the energetic consumption.

On the other hand recent studies shown that research eventually may come to a halt unless we learn to cooperate through interdisciplinary research and education. If the students will not learn how to work with interdisciplinary teams, how to think in interdisciplinary ways, they will only repeat their teacher's limititations. The unfolding of interdisciplinarity will require a true revolution, an encompassing reform in our laboratories and schools and an appropriate development of teaching instruments and methods accompanied by specific training for teachers.

The students’ creativity and enthusiasm will be reinforced by practical research made specifically to find innovative solutions that will decrease the volume of wasted materials resulted from each kind of industry.

The quality in technical education will be increased by the growing interest of the participants for new studies and solutions about saving energy and reducing the quantity of wasted materials and by using new ICT based and interdisciplinary methods as teaching instruments.

Objectives & approaches

Objectives

01.    To discover new methods and instruments for vocational education and training based on interdisciplinarity that will be used to form the future professionals in order to evaluate the wasted materials and to be able to find solutions to decrease the energy consumption.

02.    To realize the transfer of the innovative based on interdisciplinarity methods of education from a country to another by international exhibitions, workshops and sessions of scientific communications.

03.    To create a communication network of educational institutions and organizations that will promote the good practices and the results of the project in order to increase the quality in VET and the interest of future professionals in the research of practical solutions that will  reduce the waste in all the technical domains

The problems to be addressed:

-            To reduce waste and energetic consumption.

-            To develop interdisciplinary teaching methods.

-            To transfer innovative teaching methods from a country to another.

-            To use the computer technology and the internet for presentation, transfer and spread information and project acquisitions.

-            To enhance the quality in technical education.

Approaches

The 4 types of project activities will be chained link by link forming a complete and complex structure of the project.

Chain nr1:

First link:

-We will realize the first phase of the project consisting of interdisciplinary teachers-students team workshops in each participating organization. During this phase of practical exercises and research about the specific waste, new pedagogical approaches will be used and developed.

Second link -the first international meeting of the project:

-We will organize an international exhibition with results from the local teams' work activities.

Third link - the second international meeting of the project

-International scientific communication session with the participation of students and trainers of each partner to present research, studies, experiments and results.

Fourth link - the third international meeting of the project.

-International workshops for VET trainers for   good practices and experience exchange.

Fifth link - interdisciplinary teachers-students team workshops in each participating organization enhanced by new methods and approaches.

Sixth link - the fourth international meeting of the project

All the activities and results are joined in a virtual library linked to a presentation site.

Activities

Interdisciplinary teachers - students team workshops

Consists of practical exercises and research about the specific waste from the domain they learn realized by each partner will be included as possible in current learning activities will have the purpose to find solutions to reduce recycle or reuse the spoilage.

International workshops for VET trainers

Dissemination

In the first partners meeting a dissemination plan will has been discussed. It has the role of a guide that describes the aims of the dissemination, the allocation of tasks to the partners, the target groups, the methodology adopted, the tools used the outcomes and deliverables, the monitoring and evaluation methods.

The aim of the dissemination activities is to inform and raise awareness of general public as well as of specific target groups about the new innovative working methods and new interdisciplinary learning instruments for VET and about other results of the project, results like international exhibition of products about waste studies, research about the specific waste and their presentation, virtual library, etc.

Each partner assumes the responsibility to disseminate project results and outcomes at local level to the general public as well as to the education and training community, to local authorities, to NGOs who operate in the protection of environment, etc.

To do so each partner will use all communication tools available, i.e.:

-            A logo

-            The project website.

-            Sub-Links to the other partners’ websites.
